A Form of Art Therapy

June 17th, 2010 § 0

My psychologist told me not to tell you this.

Yes, it is true, I see a shrink. I think 1:4 people

see an advisor like this regularly. Here is what he

told me. “As long as you are alive, you can change.”

I thought this profound for someone who charges

exorbent sums of money to listen to peoples problems

and advise them towards “Happiness”.

This is what I discovered. Plasticity of the mind

is greatly enhanced by drawing and painting.

I don’t know how exactly but i have noticed in

myself, my students, and other artists a lust for

life. A life of excitable passion.

It’s like a new lease on life, where you can improve

your memory, enhance your learning ability and simply

brighten up your day with a pencil or brush. Not bad

for “art therapy.”

But more than that, the bumps and bruises of life

seem to be healed and bandaged with art. Inspiring us

to live with more bravado and GUSTO! Other times

working on art helps put life’s the pieces together,

allowing sense to be made out of seemingly

unrelated memories.

Alignment for Flow and Ease.

June 17th, 2010 § 0

Hi,

Have you ever had something like this change the course of your life…?

I never believed that the small things in life were what mattered until this happened to me.

I was nearly broke, my car was in need of desperate maintenance and I was out of a job. Not the happiest of circumstances, but this was the reality. Hurting between a rock and a hard place.

My family loaned me some money to get back on my feet. I am very grateful and blessed to have them in my life. I hope to be as good as them when I become a parent.

I brought my car to the shop, keep in mind I am NOT a car person. I drive slower than my grandmother, and listen to my books on tape, as I putt-putt along.

I was paranoid these guys were gonna take me for an arm and a leg, leaving me high and dry yet again.

This is where it all changed. I meet the owner, a friendly scottish fella. He explained to me that the reason my car was operating so poorly was because the alignment of the tires was off. I had been skimping regular maintenance out of personal neglect. I thought this was gonna cost in the hundreds easily.

Turns out just this one simple thing, cost 50$ and took a little under a half hour to fix.

I jumped back in my car, and got onto the highway. This was like a dream machine now. I glided across the roads, with stealth fluid motion. I never thought such a small difference could make such a huge impact!

This was when it hit me. The same thing occurred to me 5 years back. When a friend of mine pointed out a simple proportion trick. From then on out, every time I drew legs, they were spot on. It was like a burden was lifted from my shoulders that I never knew existed in the first place.

Incredible what a small piece of info, a little fine tuning, and a caring advisor can produce in one’s life. I’ve had a burst of happiness and flow in my life like never before.

I am truly grateful to these people and my family for the guidence and help when I did need it. Now I am cruising 45,000 miles strong :-)

keep it arty,

pps. If you like what you saw on this video, make sure you opt in over there on the right

to get your 3 free videos. These are cut from the best selling course Drawing With Confidence DVDs:

In this video, I’ll demonstrate how to draw from the start. Using charcoal and toned paper is the fastest way to get your ideas down and move on a great figure gesture in front of you. I use regular vine charcoal sticks in the SOFT grade to tone and draw. It can be a great tool to learn how to draw. It has been the best and most lasting tool in my tool box over the last 12 years.

PPS. Sometimes I laugh out loud, when I think of how long it took to put all these peices together…. But then I get a rush when I see how fast others can pickup where I left off in a fraction of the time. This is both humbling and rewarding at the same time. Check out the Store for more info on each Master Class.
